Tree project

This is a project conducted by 38 students in the math and science course at KASUMIGAOKA SHS in JAPAN.

Unfortunately, the number of trees has been decreasing, which has had a great influence on animals as well as human beings living on the earth.

The students have researched various causes of the problem and found solutions through discussion and research in groups.

Lessons

1. Introduction of "tree problem"

Students brainstormed why the number of trees is decreasing and picked up "acid rain" as one example. They checked the fact that rain is acid in an experiment using PH paper in groups.

This is a short video on how acid rain is produced.

2. Lecture on tropical rainforests

Students read about what is happening to tropical rainforests and watched a short movie that explained why tropical rainforests matter.

3. Mini-lecture by a science teacher and an IT teacher

A science teacher explained why trees are important and what we get from them and an IT teacher explained the ethics of using a computer.

4. Research and discussion

5. Watch DVD to deepen students' understanding of how to make a presentation

6. Presentation and evaluation using wiki
